SOCRATES POCKET TERMS OF SERVICE

1. ACCEPTANCE OF TERMS

By downloading, installing, or using the Socrates Pocket mobile application ("App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User," "you," or "your") and Cankat Saraç ("we," "us," or "our"), an individual developer operating Socrates Pocket as a sole trader, based in Hull, United Kingdom.

2. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICE

Socrates Pocket is a reflective self-inquiry app inspired by the Socratic method. The App allows you to:

  • Share a thought and receive AI-generated Socratic questions in return
  • Move through short conversational sessions (3 to 7 questions per session) in one of several mentorship themes
  • See a reasoning chain summarizing your own thinking at the end of each session
  • Save insights to a private on-device Journal
  • Access additional features through a Socrates Pocket Pro subscription

The App uses large-language-model (LLM) technology provided by third-party AI processors (see our Privacy Policy). The questions, reasoning chains, and any other text produced inside the App are generated by AI and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or unsuitable for your situation. See Sections 9 and 10 for limitations.

3. ELIGIBILITY

You must be at least 13 years old (or 16 in the European Economic Area) to use Socrates Pocket. By using the App, you represent and warrant that:

  • You meet the age requirement
  • You have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms
  • Your use of the App complies with all applicable laws

If you are under 18, you confirm that you have parental or guardian consent to use the App.

4. NO ACCOUNT REQUIRED

Socrates Pocket does not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide personal information. You may use the core features of the App anonymously.

When you purchase a subscription, the purchase is managed through your Apple or Google account and through our subscription provider (RevenueCat). See Section 7 and our Privacy Policy for details.

5. USER RESPONSIBILITIES AND CONDUCT

You agree to:

  • Use the App for lawful purposes only
  • Comply with all applicable laws and regulations
  • Not rely on the App for medical, mental-health, legal, financial, or safety decisions
  • Provide truthful information if you contact support
  • Respect the privacy and rights of others when discussing them in your sessions

6. PROHIBITED USES

You may NOT:

  • Violate any law, regulation, or third-party right
  • Use the App for fraudulent, abusive, or malicious purposes
  • Harass, abuse, or harm any person using content generated by the App
  • Attempt to extract, reverse engineer, decompile, or tamper with the App
  • Attempt to manipulate the AI into producing illegal, harmful, or policy-violating content (e.g., "jailbreak" prompts)
  • Use automated systems, bots, or scrapers to interact with the App
  • Scrape, mine, or extract AI-generated content for training AI models or reselling
  • Misuse the App to bypass usage limits, gate subscriptions, or create fraudulent purchases
  • Upload, paste, or share content that is illegal, infringing, defamatory, or that violates the privacy of others
  • Use the App in a manner that could impair its operation, compromise its security, or harm other users

7. SUBSCRIPTION AND PAYMENTS

7.1 Subscription Plans

Socrates Pocket Pro is offered through auto-renewing subscription plans. Indicative prices (subject to your local currency, taxes, and regional pricing as set by Apple or Google):

  • Monthly — $3.99 / month
  • Quarterly — $8.99 / 3 months
  • Annual — $29.99 / year
  • Lifetime / Weekly plans may be offered at our discretion

Current pricing is displayed in the App's paywall prior to purchase.

7.2 Billing

  • Subscriptions are billed through your Apple App Store account (iOS) or Google Play account (Android)
  • Payment is charged upon purchase confirmation
  • Subscriptions auto-renew unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period
  • You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your Apple or Google account settings

7.3 Free Tier

The App offers a free tier limited to one Socratic session per day with reduced conversational depth and a limited set of mentorship themes. No payment is required for the free tier.

7.4 Free Trials

If a free trial is offered, the trial automatically converts to a paid subscription at the end of the trial period unless you cancel before the trial ends. Unused portions of a free trial are forfeited when a paid subscription begins.

7.5 Refunds

Refunds are governed by the policies of the app store through which you made your purchase. We do not process refunds directly. To request a refund:

7.6 Price Changes

We reserve the right to change subscription prices. Any change will take effect at the next renewal period for existing subscribers, subject to any advance-notice requirements of Apple or Google.

8. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS

8.1 Our Content

The App, its design, brand, logo, typography, code, copy, and all other original content are owned by Cankat Saraç and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual-property laws.

8.2 Limited License to You

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes, in accordance with these Terms.

8.3 Your Content

You retain ownership of the text you write in the App. Because that text lives only on your device, we do not claim any license to it. If you voluntarily share it with us (for example, by sending it in a support email), you grant us a limited, royalty-free license to use it solely to respond to you.

8.4 AI-Generated Content

Questions and reasoning chains produced inside the App are generated by third-party AI models. Under the terms applicable to those models, you are generally permitted to use the output for personal, non-commercial reflection. You may not:

  • Use AI output to train, fine-tune, or evaluate other AI models
  • Resell, republish, or redistribute AI output as a commercial product
  • Represent AI output as human-authored professional advice

8.5 Feedback

Any feedback, suggestions, or ideas you provide may be used by us without compensation or attribution.

9. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement
  • Accuracy, reliability, or completeness of AI-generated content
  • Uninterrupted or error-free operation
  • Security or freedom from viruses

We do not guarantee that the App will meet your requirements, that any results obtained will be accurate or reliable, or that any defects will be corrected.

10. NOT A MEDICAL, MENTAL-HEALTH, OR PROFESSIONAL SERVICE

Socrates Pocket is not a medical device, therapy service, counseling service, crisis-intervention service, or substitute for professional mental-health, medical, legal, or financial advice. The App does not diagnose, treat, or cure any condition. The content generated inside the App is produced by AI language models and is offered for reflection only.

If you are in crisis or in immediate danger, stop using the App and contact qualified emergency or mental-health services:

  • United States — dial or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), or call 911 for emergencies
  • United Kingdom — call 116 123 (Samaritans)
  • European Union — call 112
  • International — find a crisis line near you at findahelpline.com or iasp.info/resources/crisis-centres

Nothing in the App — including the crisis-safety feature — is a substitute for contacting a qualified professional in an emergency.

11. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CANKAT SARAÇ AND ANY AGENTS OR CONTRACTORS ACTING ON HIS BEHALF SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:

  • Indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages
  • Loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or use
  • Business interruption
  • Personal injury, emotional distress, or property damage arising from reliance on AI-generated content
  • Any harm arising from decisions made on the basis of content displayed in the App

OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE APP SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR SUBSCRIPTIONS IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100).

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability, so some of these limitations may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law (for example, liability for death or personal injury caused by gross negligence, or for fraud).

12. INDEMNIFICATION

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Cankat Saraç and any agents or contractors acting on his behalf from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from or relating to:

  • Your use or misuse of the App
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any third-party right, including privacy or intellectual-property rights
  • Your content or conduct

13. TERMINATION

13.1 By You

You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it from your device. Cancelling a subscription is managed through your Apple or Google account settings.

13.2 By Us

We may suspend, restrict, or terminate your access to the App or to Pro features immediately, without notice, if you:

  • Violate these Terms
  • Engage in fraudulent, abusive, or illegal activity
  • Attempt to harm or interfere with other users, the App, or our providers
  • For any other reason at our reasonable discretion

13.3 Effect of Termination

Upon termination:

  • Your right to use the App ceases
  • Unused portions of a paid subscription period are non-refundable except where required by law
  • Data stored on your device remains with you until you uninstall the App
  • Sections that by their nature survive termination remain in effect (including Sections 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 15)

14. MODIFICATIONS TO THE APP AND TERMS

14.1 App Changes

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the App, any feature, or any subscription plan, at any time. We are not liable for any modification or discontinuation.

14.2 Terms Changes

We may update these Terms at any time. Changes are effective upon posting to our Terms URL. We will notify you of material changes through:

  • In-app notifications
  • Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of these Terms

Continued use of the App after the effective date of updated Terms constitutes acceptance. If you do not agree with updated Terms, uninstall the App.

15. PRIVACY

Your privacy is important to us. Please review our Privacy Policy, which describes how we handle information in connection with the App and is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

16. DISPUTE RESOLUTION

16.1 Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Where you are a consumer in another jurisdiction, mandatory consumer-protection laws of your place of residence continue to apply to the extent required by law.

16.2 Venue

Any dispute, controversy, or claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the App shall be brought exclusively in the competent courts of England, except where you have a non-waivable right to bring proceedings in the courts of your place of residence.

16.3 Informal Resolution

Before filing any formal action, you agree to first contact us at dev@teampire.uk and attempt to resolve the dispute informally in good faith within 30 days.

16.4 Injunctive Relief

Notwithstanding the above, we may seek injunctive or equitable relief in any court of competent jurisdiction to protect our intellectual-property rights.

16.5 Class Action Waiver

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to resolve disputes on an individual basis and waive any right to participate in class actions or class arbitrations.

17. GENERAL PROVISIONS

17.1 Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Socrates Pocket regarding the App.

17.2 Severability

If any provision is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full effect.

17.3 Waiver

Our failure to enforce any right or provision is not a waiver of that right.

17.4 Assignment

You may not assign or transfer these Terms. We may assign our rights and obligations without restriction.

17.5 Force Majeure

We are not liable for delays or failures due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control.

17.6 Third-Party Beneficiaries

No third party has rights under these Terms, except as expressly stated in Section 18.

18. APP STORE TERMS

If you download the App from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, you additionally agree to the applicable store's terms of service.

18.1 Apple App Store

You acknowledge that:

  • These Terms are between you and Socrates Pocket, not Apple Inc.
  • Apple is not responsible for the App or its content
  • Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App
  • In the event the App fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any); Apple will have no other warranty obligation
  • Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims relating to the App, including product liability, failure to conform to legal requirements, or intellectual-property claims
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and, upon your acceptance of these Terms, have the right to enforce them against you

18.2 Google Play Store

You acknowledge that:

  • These Terms are between you and Socrates Pocket, not Google LLC.
  • Google is not responsible for the App or its content
  • Google has no obligation to provide support

19. EXPORT COMPLIANCE

You agree to comply with all applicable export and import laws and regulations. You may not use the App in countries subject to embargo or export restrictions by the United States, the European Union, or the United Nations, and you represent that you are not on any restricted-persons or denied-parties list.

20. ACCESSIBILITY

We strive to make Socrates Pocket accessible to users with disabilities. If you encounter any accessibility barriers, please contact us at dev@teampire.uk and we will make reasonable efforts to address them.
