SOCRATES POCKET PRIVACY POLICY
Effective Date: May 25, 2026 Last Updated: May 25, 2026
Introduction
Welcome to Socrates Pocket. The app is operated by Cankat Saraç, an individual developer based in Hull, United Kingdom ("we," "our," or "us").
We respect your privacy and have designed the app with a privacy-first philosophy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard information when you use our mobile application ("App"), and — importantly — what we do not collect.
Socrates Pocket is a Socratic-method reflection app. You share a thought, receive Socratic questions, and arrive at your own insight. The app is designed so that your reflections remain on your device, tied to no account, under no login, linked to no profile.
1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
1.1 No Account, No Profile
Socrates Pocket does not require you to create an account. We do not collect:
- Your name
- Your email address
- Your phone number
- Your username or social handles
- Your date of birth
- Your photo, avatar, or biographical information
- Any contact list, calendar, or social graph
There is no login screen because there is no account.
1.2 Content You Write in the App
When you share a thought or answer a question within a Socratic session, that text is processed by a third-party AI provider (see Section 3.2) so the app can generate the next question and, at the end of the session, your reasoning chain. This processing happens in real time and does not result in the content being stored by us.
The following stays only on your device, in your device's encrypted local storage, and is never transmitted to us:
- Your opening thoughts
- Your answers to Socratic questions
- The AI's Socratic questions to you
- Your reasoning chain and insight summary for each session
- The timestamp, theme, and question count of each session
- Your selected theme preference
- Your daily usage counter (for free-tier gating)
If you delete the app, this data is deleted with it.
1.3 Purchases and Subscriptions
When you purchase a Socrates Pocket Pro subscription, the purchase is processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store) and managed through RevenueCat, our subscription infrastructure provider. For this purpose, we or our providers may collect:
- An anonymous user identifier generated by RevenueCat (not linked to your real name, email, or any personally identifying information)
- The fact that a subscription was purchased, renewed, cancelled, or refunded
- The product identifier and pricing tier
- Platform and country of purchase (as reported by Apple/Google)
This information is used solely to deliver your Pro entitlement, support purchase restoration, and comply with tax and billing requirements.
1.4 Automatically Collected Information
We use one product-analytics provider — PostHog — to understand which features people use and to fix problems. PostHog is bundled via the Rork AI Toolkit (see Section 3.2) and is initialised lazily the first time you make an AI request. It collects:
- A per-install anonymous identifier (PostHog `distinct_id`) that is not linked to your name, email, or any personally identifying information
- Device model, operating system version, app version, and locale
- Event names (such as "AI request initiated" and screen navigation) and their timestamps
- Approximate region inferred from your IP address at the time the event is sent; PostHog does not retain the raw IP address in our project configuration
We do not use PostHog to:
- Profile you across other apps or websites
- Sell or share data with advertisers, attribution networks, or data brokers
- Power advertising or marketing campaigns
We do not run advertising SDKs, attribution SDKs, or crash-reporting tools, and we do not collect:
- Device advertising identifier (IDFA / AAID)
- Your raw IP address
- Precise geolocation
- Your contacts, calendar, photos, microphone, or camera
- Clickstream data outside the app
You can opt out of PostHog analytics from within the app — see Section 6.
1.5 Crisis-Safety Feature
Socrates Pocket includes a crisis-detection feature that displays mental-health resources (such as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in the United States, the Crisis Text Line, and the International Association for Suicide Prevention directory) if the text you type matches a small, locally-evaluated list of crisis keywords. This check runs entirely on your device. Nothing about whether crisis resources were shown is transmitted off your device.
2. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION
The limited information described in Section 1.2 and Section 1.3 is used to:
- Generate the next Socratic question in your session
- Generate your reasoning chain at the end of a session
- Store your session history on your own device so you can return to it in the Journal
- Deliver and manage Socrates Pocket Pro subscriptions
- Restore previous purchases when you reinstall the app
- Comply with legal, tax, and billing obligations
We do not use your content for marketing, advertising, training AI models, profiling, or any purpose beyond those listed above.
3. INFORMATION SHARING AND DISCLOSURE
3.1 We Do Not Sell Your Data
We do not sell, rent, or trade any data — personal or otherwise — to any party. We do not share data with advertisers, data brokers, or marketers.
3.2 AI Processors
To generate Socratic questions and reasoning chains, the content you type in a session is transmitted in real time to one of the following AI service providers:
- Rork AI Toolkit (primary provider, on behalf of Socrates Pocket)
- Google Gemini (fallback)
- Anthropic Claude (fallback)
- OpenAI GPT (fallback)
These providers receive only the text necessary to produce a response (your current thought, the active conversation context, and the system prompt). They do not receive your device identifier, RevenueCat ID, name, email, or any other identifier tying the content to you as a person. Each provider operates under its own privacy terms and commercial agreements in which they commit to not using API content for training their general-purpose models:
- Google Gemini via API — ai.google.dev/gemini-api/terms
- Anthropic Claude via API — anthropic.com/legal/privacy
- OpenAI API — openai.com/enterprise-privacy
- Rork AI Toolkit — rork.com
3.3 Payment and Subscription Providers
- Apple — for iOS purchases (apple.com/legal/privacy)
- Google — for Android purchases (policies.google.com/privacy)
- RevenueCat — for cross-platform subscription management (revenuecat.com/privacy)
3.4 Product Analytics
- PostHog — for app analytics events as described in Section 1.4 (posthog.com/privacy)
3.4 Legal Requirements
We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or a valid government request, or to:
- Protect our rights and property
- Prevent illegal activities
- Ensure user safety
Because the bulk of your reflective content never leaves your device, there is typically nothing for us to disclose in response to such a request.
3.5 Business Transfers
If Socrates Pocket is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, any information we hold may be transferred as part of that transaction. You will be notified of any such change and of any resulting changes to this Privacy Policy.
4. DATA SECURITY
We implement privacy-by-design and industry-standard safeguards:
- On-device data is stored in the operating system's sandboxed storage, protected by the device's disk encryption
- Network requests to AI and subscription providers are transmitted over TLS (HTTPS)
- The app does not operate a backend database of user content; there is no server-side store to breach
- We regularly review our dependencies for security advisories
However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
5. DATA RETENTION
Because we do not store your session content on any server, retention is controlled by you:
- Session history, preferences, and usage counters live on your device until you delete the app or clear its data in your device settings
- Subscription records held by Apple, Google, and RevenueCat are retained for as long as required by their respective policies and applicable tax law
You can erase all on-device data at any time by uninstalling the app or using your operating system's "Clear Storage" feature for Socrates Pocket.
6. YOUR RIGHTS AND CHOICES
Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights:
- Access — request information about what data we hold about you (typically none, beyond the anonymous RevenueCat identifier if you purchased a subscription)
- Rectification — correct information we hold about you
- Erasure — request deletion of any personal information we hold about you
- Restriction — restrict how we process your information
- Portability — request a copy of your data in a structured, commonly used format
- Objection — object to processing of your information
- Withdrawal of consent — withdraw any consent you have given
To exercise these rights, email us at dev@teampire.uk. Because Socrates Pocket does not require an account, we may ask you to provide information that helps us verify your request (such as the RevenueCat anonymous ID or the receipt of a purchase).
To opt out of PostHog product analytics, open the app and toggle "Help improve the app" off in Settings. Opting out clears the local `distinct_id` and stops further events from being sent.
To stop all local retention immediately, uninstall the app.
7. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
Socrates Pocket is not directed to, nor intended for use by, children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the European Economic Area). We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has used the app, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
8. INTERNATIONAL DATA TRANSFERS
The AI processors listed in Section 3.2 and the subscription providers listed in Section 3.3 may process your content or purchase data in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, transfers of personal data out of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland rely on safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework, or equivalent mechanisms offered by each provider.
9. THIRD-PARTY LINKS
Our app and this Privacy Policy may contain links to third-party websites or services (such as mental-health crisis resources, or the privacy pages of our providers). We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of these third parties. Please review their privacy policies directly.
10. CALIFORNIA PRIVACY RIGHTS (CCPA / CPRA)
California residents have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act:
- Right to know what categories of personal information are collected
- Right to know whether personal information is sold, shared, or disclosed
- Right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information
- Right to correct inaccurate personal information
- Right to delete personal information
- Right to limit the use of sensitive personal information
- Right to non-discrimination for exercising these rights
We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law.
To exercise these rights, email dev@teampire.uk.
11. GDPR COMPLIANCE (EEA, UK, Switzerland)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the UK GDPR and EU GDPR grant you rights as listed in Section 6. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Legal basis for processing (GDPR Art. 6):
- Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) — to deliver the core app functionality and any subscription you purchase
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — to keep the app safe, secure, and free from abuse
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — where required for specific processing; you may withdraw consent at any time
- Legal obligations (Art. 6(1)(c)) — to comply with applicable laws, including tax and billing

12. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through:
- In-app notifications

14. COOKIES AND TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES
Socrates Pocket is a native mobile app and does not use browser cookies. The only on-device storage we write that is comparable to a cookie is the PostHog `distinct_id` (Section 1.4), used to deduplicate analytics events from a single app install. We do not use advertising pixels or cross-app tracking SDKs, and we do not profile you across apps or services.
15. NOT A MEDICAL OR MENTAL-HEALTH SERVICE
Socrates Pocket is a reflective journaling tool inspired by the Socratic method. It is not a medical device, therapy service, counseling service, or substitute for professional mental-health care. The content generated inside the app is produced by AI language models and is offered for reflection only. If you are in crisis or in need of mental-health support, please use the resources shown by the in-app crisis-safety feature, contact a qualified professional, or — in the United States — dial or text 988. For emergencies, call your local emergency number.

This Privacy Policy is effective as of the date stated above and governs our handling of your information.
